Transportation Director Elizabeth Finley learned from her counterpart Tony Harris, special assistant to the transportation director and the governmental relations manager for the Alabama Department of Transportation of the Alabama Department of Transportation, that his department is the state’s largest with more than 40,000 employees.

Sandra Lucas with the Alabama Department of Emergency Management explained to Youth Legislature’s Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Austin Haisten that her department helps the state during natural disaster such as hurricanes and tornadoes. Volcanos erupting is the only disaster Alabama does not have to worry about.

Ragan Ingram, governmental relations manager with the Alabama Department of Insurance, gave his counterpart a tour of his office and explained to him that one of their jobs is to explain insurance polices to the consumers.

The luncheon helped delegates understand their Cabinet positions and also the different departments the Alabama government has to offer.

2009 Youth Gov. Roscoe Anderson has selected his Governor’s Cabinet and staff. Besides helping the governor to shape his legislative agenda for the upcoming session, these young people will meet prior to the 2009 session of the Alabama YMCA Youth Legislature with their adult counterparts to learn more about their appointed jobs.
