Youth Governor Noah Crawford’s goal for this year’s program is to make it the best and most productive weekend. Every participant should strive to take this opportunity and make the most with it, he said. Do the best you can do, but do not stress about being the best. “Don’t be the best, do the best,” he said.

“I solemnly swear …”

Fifteen Youth Judicial judges were sworn in to office Saturday by Tuskegee native U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson. Judge Thompson is an accomplished Article 3 judge. As he explained, Article 3 judges are appointed by the president and serve for life. Judge Thompson reminded Youth Judicial participants about the history of Montgomery’s Federal Courthouse. He informed us that a number of important decisions came from here. These include those that affirmed the rights of prisoners, the rights of the mentally ill, the rights of blacks to equal opportunity and the rights of women. Many people think that judges have a fun and easy job, and often forget how big of a responsibility they have. It is a huge honor to hold such a position. The 15 Youth Judicial judges were reminded of this big responsibility when they were sworn into office. They swore to be fair and impartial in their actions and decisions. They also agreed to support the values of the YMCA program and to faithfully and honestly uphold their jobs at judges. We appreciate all that these judges do for Youth Judicial, and know the program could not exist without their help.
